Supporting Health Promoting Schools in Kazakhstan

The SHE secretariat (Goof Buijs) is involved in a WHO pilot project to support health promoting school development in Kazakhstan. Together with the WHO country office 7 pilot schools in 4 regions in Kazakhstan are introduced to the Russian version of the SHE school manual (translation of the English version of the SHE online school manual). The schools were trained in November 2016, currently they are developing their school action plan and completing the SHE rapid assessment tool. In the period March - October 2017 the pilot schools will carry out their plans and evaluate their outcomes. In February Goof Buijs visited the pilot schools and met with local and regional stakeholders. In April a meeting will be held with all pilot schools in Almaty to share experiences and discuss challenges. The project will finish in October 2017 with an evaluation workshop, resulting in a culturally adapted SHE school manual for Kazakhstan and recommendations for a national plan for Health Promoting Schools in Kazakhstan. Also improvement of school health services is part of the project. The experiences of the schools with the SHE school manual sofar are positive. More news about the project will follow soon.
